TWINKLE, TWINKLE, LITTLE SHEEPY is a cute board book about bedtime challenges. It is time for a little sheep to go to sleep, but they do not seem ready for bed, sneaking out and trying to read under covers. In the end, the little sheep does finally go to sleep. The text can be sung to the tune of "Twinkle, twinkle, little star."

What I loved: This is a cute and humorous read about bedtime struggles. Toddlers will understand the humor of the little sheep who is sneaking out of bed and refusing to go to sleep. This is sure to create some giggles as they listen to the song and explore the images. The text works well when sung to the tune of "Twinkle, twinkle, little star," adding some auditory fun to reading to the book. Each page spread has no more than a line or two of the song, so they turn as quickly as young readers would like.

The illustrations are colorful and capture the mischief and story well. There is plenty to visually explore on each page, which works well for little readers. This is great for bedtime, with the little sheep eventually falling to sleep at the end of the book.

Final verdict: TWINKLE, TWINKLE, LITTLE SHEEPY is a cute and humorous board book read, great for toddlers and preschoolers who love colorful images, nursery rhymes, and mischievous characters.

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Sheepy by Lucy Ruth Cummins is a cute and silly bedtime story that makes reading with little ones fun. The story follows Little Sheepy as he tries to go to sleep, but like many kids, he keeps popping out of bed for snacks and little distractions. Written in sing-song rhymes inspired by the classic "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," the text is simple and playful, perfect for young children just learning language patterns. The story encourages relaxation and winding down before bed, making it an excellent choice for parents who want to establish a fun bedtime routine.

The illustrations by Pete Oswald are bright and full of personality, bringing Sheepy and his nighttime adventures to life. Even picky little readers I’ve read this book to were captivated by the expressive faces and playful scenes, often laughing at Sheepy’s antics while snuggling in for the story. The sturdy board book pages make it easy for little hands to hold, and the rhyming text helps children anticipate what comes next, keeping them engaged while fostering early reading skills. My favorite part of the book is when Little Sheepy finally snuggles down after a big yawn, which is both cute and satisfying to read aloud. It’s a gentle reminder that bedtime can be fun yet comforting all at once.
