Two-List Thanksgiving

A little girl makes two lists, one for her local market and the other for the Korean market, in preparation for both sides of her family coming together for Thanksgiving dinner. They grab carrots for japchae and turkey stuffing, shrimp for pajeon, short ribs for galbi, and whipped cream for pumpkin pie.

What I Liked: This book begins by introducing you to a little girl and her two lists that she has prepared to ensure they get everything for Thanksgiving dinner. The two-page spread shows you both hand written list and then throughout the rest of the book, you get introduced to the various things on that list.

The soft illustrations included throughout this book do a great job of showcasing the girl’s feelings towards her family and their Thanksgiving dinner. Each page does a great job of highlighting the various foods that are being made for this dinner, and how the two cultures are being incorporated. Throughout the book, you also get a chance to see the other activities the family partakes in during this holiday, such as chatting and watching television. It's fascinating to see how different families celebrate Thanksgiving and how each family is different, but the underlying feeling of gratitude during this meal is the same.

Final Verdict: Two List Thanksgiving does a fantastic job of highlighting the merging of two different cultures and how these two cultures can come together to create one family. This book is perfect for children ages 4 and up who are learning about Thanksgiving and the importance of coming together for this holiday. This book highlights how beautiful it is to blend traditions from different cultures, and how sharing can enhance your holiday celebrations.
