A bestselling picture book, WATERMELON POOL has now been translated into English. Nothing feels better in the summer heat than swimming in a glorious watermelon pool. At least that’s what everyone in the village thinks when the sun gets hot and a large watermelon splits in half. They gather and dive in, spending the day together and having fun.

WATERMELON POOL is a simple, but adorable read. With very few words, it still manages to show off a wonderous and fun-filled experience. The story is mainly told through pictures, with some dialogue scattered in just to add to the experience.

Bonsoir Lune’s artwork is brilliant, capturing the excitement and joy that comes from spending a hot day swimming with friends and family. It leans into a more surreal experience, but no less exciting or true. The illustrations are bright and sharp, each line drawn not perfectly but intentionally. The bright colors add to the heat and beauty of the season, capturing all the magic that exists.

There are surreal parts of this book that just add to the wonder. The premise itself is already unreal, but the story dots in some stranger things that make it feel even more magical. Especially the cloud seller!

WATERMELON POOL is a wonderful and fun story that relies heavily on its gorgeous art and imagination.
