Reader reviewed by Julie M. Prince

Okay, I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for funny titles. Intrigued by the promise of humor, I selected this book as a light read.

Meant to be a funny attempt at a field guide, this book explores the various creatures of Life on Earth in prehistoric butt times, starting with "Invertebutts" and wrapping up with "Bummals."

The "exstinktion of the buttosaurs" is certainly creative, and jokes about the Buttslug (of the Disgustepod family)earned general groans and eye rolls, but overall, I'd say it's fair to heed the publisher's warning found in the front of the book:

"If you're a parent or a teacher, or even if you're just over eighteen, put this book down now! You won't like it, you won't understand it. You'll be totally grossed out by it...."

and

"...if on the other hand, you find yourself vaguely amused, slightly curious, or even excited about any--or all--of the things you've just been warned about, then by all means be our guest and read the book...Just don't say that you weren't warned."
