WHEN YOU FIND A QUESTION is a magical book. Taking place in a town where everyone searches for Answers, what happens when a boy finds a Question? He’s never seen anything like this before and he’s curious, so he decides to keep his Question hidden. But the Questions grows and glows as they boy wonders, until one day it can’t be held in any longer.

This book uses tangible items to explore people’s need for Answers and Questions. It’s a fascinating concept and it does pretty well at carrying it for a picture book. There’s never a reason given for why the Answers and Questions are tangible items, but for a picture book there doesn’t need to be. Adults will understand what the book is saying and many children likely will as well, though they may need some help from adults.

The illustrations capture the feeling of the book really well. It uses relatively muted colors, a lot of shades of brown and gray at the beginning. But when the Questions are shown, they are a pop of color. A muted, glowing pop of reds and oranges and greens. The color in the book gets brighter as more people find Questions and allow their curiosity to lead them to new places. It shifts as the story does, allowing readers to feel the importance of asking questions.

This is a fun book. I love how much it encourages asking questions and being curious. Answers are important in life; there’s no denying it. But questions and curiosities will take you places that you never expected. This is especially important for kids who may be hesitant to try new things or explore new places with their families.

WHEN YOU FIND A QUESTION is a fun and magical tale about curiosity and the power of allowing yourself to ask questions.
