When a Japanese-speaking family moves next door to an English-speaking family, the two girls connect and become friends who do everything together. With alternating Japanese and English words, it's refreshing to see different language representations. Children can learn a bit of Japanese reading this and it's perfect for the winter season.
WORDS TO MAKE A FRIEND is a heartwarming story about two girls who befriend each other even with the language barrier. This book teaches children that friendship is more than words. The illustrations are soft and have a sketchbook feel to them that gives it a more relaxed feel. My daughter enjoyed feeling like she was learning some Japanese words as we read.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this book to preschool children who parents want to teach a bit about multicultural situations. I love the friendship themes and the Japanese representation.
