I really enjoyed this book, and think it's a great mystery for young readers just entering the chapter book genre. Themes of respect, friendship, and community are very strong throughout the story. One of my favorite aspects of this book was the accurate historical information! Readers will learn about King George and his taxes, Thomas Jefferson, the Declaration of Independence, and the meaning behind the Fourth of July, and they'll learn all of that in the context of four adventurous grade school kids entering a pet parade, losing their pets, and beginning an all-out search of the town to recover their missing pets. This is a fabulous series, and I highly recommend it.
