A GOOD THING HAPPENED TODAY is an inspiring picture book about being kind and helping others. With rhyming and poetic text, the book suggests ways that people can and have made a difference. Some pages feature a particular city along with the text, such as a library made from old books in Bogota and bringing water to places without in Tsavo with the city shown in the corner of the spread.

What I loved: This is a colorful celebration of kindness and doing good - in big and small ways. There are so many different examples of ways to make a difference, such as holding doors for others, singing a song, and knitting a blanket for those in need. These are great examples which could inspire children to add some kindness to those around them in their own lives. The rhyming and lyrical text will appeal to young readers and rolls off the tongue nicely.

What left me wanting more: As a very small thing, the page that talks about goodness being free shows a lemonade stand to save the ocean, which is not free, so maybe was not a great example. There are a few fundraisers shown throughout the book, but I appreciated the many other examples that are easier to incorporate in daily life.

Final verdict: A cute and charming picture book about kindness and doing good, A GOOD THING HAPPENED TODAY is a rhyming story that will appeal to young readers.
