Mary and Clare are the best of friends, who hug each other when they meet at preschool and hang out together all school day. But when it's Mary's birthday, Clare suffers jealousy pangs. Words are exchanged, and before long the two are exbest best friends. They go off to play with other kids. However, Clare knows just the way to her friend's heart. Mary, for her part, knows how to take an apology--and there's a happy ending to the day's upset.
As in the vibrant ELLA SARAH GETS DRESSED, the story speaks directly to the preschool crowd in a simple and heartfelt manner. The theme of enduring friendship despite set-backs is one everyone can relate to. Children will want to view the engaging illustrations repeatedly. An excellent read-aloud!
