Lika has never really given her shadow a second glance until it starts behaving oddly. It doesn't even disappear when she turns off the light like most shadows do. Instead, this one scares her because it's something she can't escape. This fear worsens until the shadow brings her to the circus where differences are celebrated. Here, Lika finds peace and understanding.

CIRCUS OF SHADOWS addresses self-esteem issues and wild emotions children may feel at the idea of being different. They hold those differences deep within themselves like a shadow, afraid to express it. This enchanting story teaches that everybody is different and that's okay. Instead of hiding it, we should embrace them. The illustrations have a darker then that is appropriate for the tone of the story and I love how this book isn't what I was expecting at all. It was better. I originally assumed it would be a story of circus fun, but instead, it's a story about embracing who you are with pride.

Final Verdict: I would recommend this to children aged four and up who may face fears as it shows them the importance of acceptance and happiness. After all, shadows can't remain hidden forever.
