The Friendly Firecat is an engaging story that is the perfect length for children getting into chapter books.
The setting of the story is very science-fiction, encouraging children to use their imagination. Full of thrilling adventures through, this fast-paced book takes readers through distant plains.
While full of fun antics, The Friendly Firecat also introduces young readers to the very real and cruel act of poaching. There is cartoonish villain, but a happy ending for the main characters involved.
The illustrations are well done, however the light lines that can make it tough to see all the details. I feel like darkening them up would make them easier to see, or perhaps added pops of water-color.
The cover art is spectacular. I love how the artist kept your typical wild cat look, but gave it some exotic coloring. I feel like this makes an introduction into sci-fi a bit easier for young kids.
I enjoyed this book and I think it’s a great addition to any reading list due to its simplicity. The descriptions and fast pacing makes this a quick yet enjoyable read.
