COVERED IN ADVENTURES is a sweet book about a young girl who celebrates all the fun things that have ended up on her clothes. Her fathers ask her to take off her sweater that has seen better days, but Sasha is not ready to let it go. It has stains from all the great adventures she has had in it, like when she was cooking with her fathers, working on a volcano experiment, camping with her friends, nature exploring, and more. In the end, she realizes that the adventures aren't really about the sweater but the people who have them.
What I loved: This was such a delightful read about the way our adventures shape us and our clothes. It can be tough to say goodbye to things we get attached to, but the important thing is ultimately the memories we create. The story conveys these themes in a really sweet and simple way. The straight-forward text keeps the pages turning quickly with quick phrases or sentences on each spread. I also really love that the story features two fathers in the family, something that isn't often encountered in picture books but is really important to see.
The font is large and easy to read which is helpful for caregivers reading. Combined with the quickly turning pages and simple illustrations and bright colors, this works well for toddlers and preschoolers.
Final verdict: A delightful picture book that celebrates memories, COVERED IN ADVENTURES is a simple but clever read about the things we become attached to.
