When Duck and Goose discover a treasure--an enormous brightly colored egg--they squabble over it. After all, Duck saw it first. But, Goose points out, he touched it first. Then they decide that arguing is not good for the baby bird inside the egg. Eventually they decide to collaborate to keep the egg cozy while they wait. They wait a long, long time, and while they're sitting on that egg, they get to talking about all the things they'll teach the new baby (like how to quack and how to honk). As time goes by, they listen to the rain, watch the sun, eat together, and teach each other a few tricks. After a while, the baby becomes "our baby." And then one day, they feel the egg jump . . .

This is a truly heartwarming and charming tale of differences overcome, and friendship begun, topped off with a hilarious ending! (Sure, I know I'm gullible but I actually did not see it coming.) The illustrations, by author Tad Hills are bright, funny, and expressive. How much do I love this book? It immediately went on my top ten favorites list! Highest recommendation.
