Willow takes her fairy friends to see the ocean in this second chapter book in the Fairies Welcome series from New York Times bestselling illustrator Bea Jackson.

When Willow tells her fairy friends Lily, Sky, and Jasmine all about the beach—the sunsets over the ocean, the stars, and the moonlight—the fairies want to see it for themselves. At first, Willow is super careful not to let her friends get too close to the powerful ocean, but the fairies complain they’re not having fun!

Willow compromises by showing them how to build a sandcastle, and all goes well…until a giant wave sweeps Sky out to sea! Can they save her or is she lost forever?

Willow tells her fairy friends all about the beach and now Lily wants to see it for herself. Willow decides to take them with her to visit her Grandma, and first thinks that she won’t let her fairy friends get too close to the ocean for their safety. But then the fairies begin complaining that they aren’t enjoying themselves so Willow decides she’ll build a sandcastle with them, and everything has taken a turn for the better until a wave destroys their castle and takes Sky out to the sea. Willow isn’t allowed in the water alone and the fairies can’t fly with their wings being wet. How will they rescue Sky?

What I Liked: The start of this book briefly describes the last adventure that the fairies were on with Willow before diving into the story. Willow shares with her friends about how amazing the beach is through descriptive words that make the image come to life. It’s interesting to see how the fairies imagine various things at the beach such as shells and crabs and then have them see all of these items for themselves.

The illustrations throughout the book do a great job of breaking up the text so that there isn’t much text per page making for a this a great pick for younger readers. This is a good first chapter book as the chapters are shorter, the text is large, and the language used is easy for younger readers to digest.

Final Verdict: Fairies Welcome: A Wish for Lily is a fun story that takes you on another adventure with Willow and her fairy friends. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy this book, this book lends itself well to being read aloud so it’s perfect to read with younger children as you introduce them to chapter books. This book is perfect for fans of Bea Jackson’s other books, children who like fairies, or anyone looking for something whimsical and fun.
