Mermicorno: Fintastic Quest! follows Kameko and her new friends, Nautique, Squishella, Astra, and Gwen as they go on a new adventure. Kameko really wants to find her dad but it's too dangerous to be in the ocean right now so she comes up with a plan to try to reach him. Kameko will write messages in bottles and release them in the sea in the hopes that one will get to her dad, but when she tries to get her friends to help they all are too busy and Nautique doesn’t believe this will work. Kameko wants to find herself a best friend as she feels a little left out being the only Mermaid-icorno in her current friend group so she sets out to find a best friend.

What I Liked: This book begins by introducing you briefly to the mermicorno group, so if you aren’t familiar with their story this is a great start. The book does a fantastic job with its pacing making it easy for young readers to follow and to break down the chapters. Each chapter varies in its length but they each feel the same when it comes to the events taking place in the chapter.

Throughout the book there are illustrations that help paint a picture of what is happening in the story. The black and white illustrations have a great amount of detail so you can tell each character apart and it helps bring scenes to life such as the scene in which Kameko is helping with cookie tasting.

The book does a great job of highlighting the feelings that Kameko is faced with as she searches for her dad while also feeling like she doesn’t have a friendship she fits in with perfectly. It was fun to read through the different experiences that Kameko has with new friends in the ocean. It was amazing to get to see the different ways that Kameko is able to support her different friends and how each of those friends comes to her aid.

Final Verdict: Mermicorno: Fintastic Quest! is an action packed adventure book about friendship and supporting one another. Children ages 6 and up will enjoy going on this adventure and learning how one can have multiple best friends. This book is perfect for those who like My Little Pony, Powerpuff Girls, and Unicornia, then this is a top-choice book for you to pick up.
