Go to Sleep, Monster! is a delightful and heartwarming tale. The book follows a night time adventure between George and Anna. George won't turn off the light because he's afraid of the monster under his bed. It's a fear seem a lot in picture books, but author Kevin Cornell makes it his own. Anna, the brave older sister, tells the monster under George's bed to stop scaring her brother. But the monster isn't scary at all. In fact, the monster is scared himself of the monster beneath HIS floor. Over and over again, the monsters get bigger and bigger, and the group journeys deeper and deeper until they reach the center of the earth. The monster here is the biggest. When confronted with the very final fear, the realization is something that all kids and adults will relate to.
Go to Sleep, Monster! is full of whimsical and smart, dark but colorful. Readers will be glad to know that the old saying, "the only thing to fear is fear itself" is quite true.
