A festive penguin has a gift to deliver. waddling through the snow, he opens a door to give it to an elf. In turn, the elf travels to open a door, and the story continues until the final gift is delivered to a door behind which is a mirror.

This short story is told in rhyming verse with the repetition of "he/she has a gift/ but who's it for?" which will make this a fun and easy read aloud for a very young child. It's also good for practicing prediction. The cast of characters is all very Christmasy, with a reindeer, fox, polar bear, and Santa rounding out the crew.

Good Points

The illustrations have a very Infographic, geometric feel to them, and I loved that each previous house was shown in the background of the next page. The doors are all decorated in distinctive ways. There are also plenty of fun details outside they doors that give clues to who might be inside. I particularly enjoyed the polar bear's wreath of fish!

Mirrors are a lot of fun for babies, and there should be a lot of giggles for children of a certain age who will be pleased to see themselves in the book. I wasn't able to test the audio version available through a QR code, but I can imagine this being very useful, since this is a book that will be requested frequently for read alouds!

If you are looking for a secular holiday book for a young reader, this is a great choice for a stocking stuffer along with titles like Ingela P Arrhenius' My BIG Playbook: Christmas, Dexet's Slide and Peek Santa, Austin's Pocket Piggies: Christmas or Trukhan's The Great Big Christmas Tree Hunt .

GUESS WHO? MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU! is a delightful lift-the-flap picture book! A character is bringing a gift to a friend on each page with a door that lifts to reveal who the Christmas-related friend is. On the last page, they all team up to bring a gift to someone - who turns out to be the reader with a mirror in place behind the door.

What I loved: This text has fantastic rhythm and repetition that is perfect for toddlers and young preschoolers. With the swapping out of creatures, it otherwise features the same text on each page that rolls off the tongue. Little ears will appreciate how easy it is to understand and follow. The text is also easy to read on each page for caregivers sharing the story at any time of day or in low light settings like bedtime.

The images are fantastic- full of Christmas details and adorable characters, including a penguin, santa, reindeer, elf, and more! The flaps are large and easy to move from the page to reveal each character as they knock on the door with a gift. The non-religious Christmas theme is delightful to share with little ones.

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, I really wish this was a board book! The book is fantastic for the littlest readers with the repetition, rhythm, and imagery, but the paper door flaps and pages can be easy to tear for enthusiastic young fingers.

Final verdict: GUESS WHO? MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU! is a charming Christmas-themed lift-the-flap picture book that is sure to delight young readers with the rhythmic text, simplicity, and colorful images.
