“How Do You Jew?” by Suzy Ultman is a celebration of Jews around the world. The book encourages readers to understand that there are so many different ways in which to be Jewish. From eating challah on Shabbat to dancing to klezmer music, singing “Dayenu” on Passover, lighting an oil menorah on Chanukah, and making anywhere feel like home, Jews can feel their pride anywhere and everywhere.

The book doesn’t just focus on Jews in Israel or America, but makes mention of Jews from Australia, Ethiopia, Morocco, Poland, South Africa, India, and more. The illustrations are sweet and easily accessible for young readers, culminating with a final page that asks, “How do you Jew?” This allows readers to think about their own ways of being Jewish and how to possibly incorporate new traditions into their observance.
