Unfamiliar with Christina Rossetti’s classic poem, Into the Goblin Market by Vikki VanSickle is the perfect reminder for children not to trust the fae, or strangers who have deals that are too good to be true.

This is a spooky but fun story that can be read year round featuring fairy tale references mixed into the market; we see the Pied Piper, and witch with an apple, Plus, Millie wears a red riding hood and encounters a wolf.
The lyrical writing is captivating and a joy to read aloud. I would love a full fleshed out story for YA readers!

The illustrations are black & white with pops of red color and they are delightful. There is so much detail in those mostly mono-chromatic images, readers of all ages are sure enjoying looking through them.

The art is beautiful and the story is fun, full of whimsy, and just a splash of dark, a perfect reminder for all to stay loyal and true to what is most important.
