Mr. and Mrs. O'Grady are so poor, they have only one of each thing: one potato to share each day, one chair to share, and one candle. Yet, they are content, except for one thing: each yearns for a friend.

One day, Mr. O'Grady discovers something deep in their garden patch: a big black pot. Unfortunately, he finds it as he also discovers they only have one more potato in the garden. When they cook the potato in their new pot, though, something magical happens: they get two potatoes. Each object they put in the pot comes back doubled. Soon they've got enough for a potato feast. And that's not all--they double their hairpins and candles and even the one gold coin they've been hoarding. Then something alarming happens--Mrs. O'Grady falls in the pot, which leads to the satisfying happy ending full of friends.

This is a delightfully retold folktale--and the illustrations are absolutely amazing! Highly recommended!
