This work by David Shannon is a hilarious and lively picture book that kids can’t get enough of. In this follow-up to the beloved No, David!, David is back with even more "mischievous" antics (as always), trying to make everyone laugh with his cannonballs, spaghetti slurping, and classroom jokes. Of course, not every trick goes as planned, and some, like sticking things up his nose, definitely don’t get the reaction he hopes for. Through all his chaos, David’s humor and energy shine, and the story reminds readers that even when kids mess up, they are still loved, especially by family.
These kinds of books are always a hit during reading time because kids enjoy shouting out what David is doing, laughing at his silly mistakes, and predicting what he might do next. The illustrations are bold and expressive, perfectly capturing David’s emotions and the humor in every scene. I loved seeing how Shannon blends exaggerated fun with everyday situations kids can relate to, making it feel both outrageous and familiar at the same time. My favorite part is when David tries one of his big stunts, expecting everyone to laugh, and ends up in trouble instead, it’s realistic and silly, showing the fine line between creativity and chaos.
Overall, it’s an entertaining, easy-to-read book that encourages kids to giggle, participate, and enjoy reading aloud. The combination of David’s antics, the expressive illustrations, and the gentle humor makes it perfect for storytime, whether at school, home, or in a library setting.
