My six-year-old daughter asked me to read this to her tonight for her bedtime story. I had every intention of reading just half, but she wouldn't let me, I had to read it all! And to be honest, I didn't mind. It's a lovely little story with some clever twists and good writing that isn't condescending (which is why it appealed to me, I guess). The illustrations are beautiful, too.
When I finished I asked my daughter, "So, good or rubbish?"
She said, "Brilliant!"
In an age of overpriced children's illustrated books, this is a welcome change. Top marks to everyone involved. I'll certainly keep an eye out for more children's books by Joel Sutherland.
