Too Much: My Great Big Native Family is a fantastic children's book about the need of being heard and speaking up, especially in larger families.
Russell has gotten a part in the play, but finds it near impossible to tell his family. It's too noisy, too many, and just too much!
There is a tiny bit of "play speak" in this children's book, and some may find it a bit confusing if they are unfamiliar with the terms. This could be a great opportunity to learn along side your kids.
I enjoyed the different similes used by the author, putting words to the feeling Russell is experiencing.
I really liked the progression Russell had; from telling his family he was in the play to questioning on if there was just too much, to doing things on his own. This is an important lesson for children to learn, and Goodluck made it easy for children to put themselves in Russell's shoes.
The illustrations done by George are super nice. She did so well capturing the different emotions in Russell's expressions. I love the essence she's managed to capture on each spread. My favorite would have to be when they family visits aquarium and the playfulness of the family.
