WILD HONEY FROM THE MOON is a story of boundless love and a mother's quest. Mother Shrew is worried about her son, Hugo, who is very ill. When she consults a book by the experts, she learns that his symptoms are very dangerous, and a teaspoon of wild honey from the moon could cure it. Thus, she sets out on a seemingly impossible quest of love to get some wild honey from the moon.

Mother Shrew tricks an owl into flying her to the moon, then settles a night mare into taking her further, where she then encounters a butterfly and a swarm of bees, before getting the honey she needs and returning. Lightly dangerous and full of adventure, her journey takes her so far.

Speaking to the depth of parent-child love with a dreamlike story and illustration combination, this is a lovely book about the willingness to do anything to make a child feel better.

What I loved: The illustrations are lovely and cover most of the pages. This is a chapter book which contains a lot of text, but still manages to be between a middle grade book and picture book, great for elementary school-aged readers who are inbetween. The illustrations perfectly accompany the story with vibrant colors and elegant details. There is a dreamlike quality to them that make this whole story fill with magic and love. The action/adventure adds an extra thrill to this story, making it appeal to a broader audience. This would be great as a bedtime story for older children, read in parts, as it is broken into chapters, or by readers who are starting to get into chapter books.

Final verdict: Lovely and colorful, WILD HONEY FROM THE MOON is a gorgeous book about the depth of parental love and a fantastic journey. Recommend for children who are between picture and chapter books as it is fairly wordy but full of beautiful illustrations (or to be read in parts). Mother Shrew's journey is incredible, and it's delightful to follow her in this lovely book.
