WISDOM OF THE WOODS, one of the Brown Bear Wood books, is a collection of 40 nature poems. Following in the path of the previous books, these poems are focused on the woodlands and the wonder of nature.
The poems are beautifully written. With different focuses and rhyme schemes, they feel unique while also feeling connected. It’s clear that they are all part of the same collection, the forest seeming to grow with each poem. Each poem gives off a sense of wonder, focusing on different aspects of nature while still exuding the marvel of nature.
As the book is geared towards readers aged 4-6, there may be some words that they are unfamiliar with. Using context clues they may be able to figure out the word, but if they can’t don’t worry. There’s a section at the back of the book, titled Words to Know, that may help fill in any gaps in the readers knowledge.
The illustrations in this book are stunning. The lines are clean and the colors are vibrant. Each drawing seems to capture the feel of the poem. Whether it’s happy or rainy or still, the illustrations capture the mood. Each creature feels real, the illustrations giving them a sense of life and personality. It captures the sense of wonder that springs from this book with every page.
A collection of magical poems, WISDOM OF THE WOODS captures the wonder of nature. Each poem has a different feeling from the one before it and each illustration gives life to the poem it is representing. This is a wonderful collection of poems, brimming with whimsy and wonder on every page.
