A Babymouse Flipbook: Thrills! has Babymouse back again in this book, which has two comics in one book. The two books that are included are Queen of the World and Our Hero. Queen of the World takes you along with Babymouse as she tries to get invited to the popular girl, Felicia Furrpaws, slumber party. To what extent is Babymouse willing to go for that invite, will she learn something along the way? In Our Hero, Babymouse has to participate in the school’s dodgeball tournament which she has been avoiding for a while now. Who will end up victorious? Or will Babymouse end up dodging this tournament yet again?
What I Liked: I’ve read a Babymouse book in the past so I was delighted to see that there was a book in full cover with two more of her stories. Babymouse books are sweet and fun and tend to contain a message that is great for younger children. The books that are included in this graphic novel center around friendship and working together to overcome challenges.
This book is a great introduction to graphic novels for children who may be struggling with reading books written in prose. Each panel contains few words and the story is mainly told through the various images that are included. As this is the first of the Babymouse books to be completely in color you can see all of the details come alive throughout the pages and be even more familiar with the characters you might already know.
In Queen of the World, Babymouse is really excited when she hears that the popular kids are getting together for a slumber party, the only problem is that she hasn’t received an invite. Babymouse ends up getting an invite to the slumber party but at what costs? She goes to this party only to realize that it isn’t what she expected and wonders if it was worth leaving her best friend behind who has always been there for her. Babymouse learns that sometimes it's better to be true to oneself than try to change yourself to please others.
In Our Hero, Babymouse is dreading the upcoming dodgeball tournament as she has been able to find excuses to avoid the game every time it comes up. This time the teacher has made it clear that everyone is to participate in the game and there will be no excuses allowed. Babymouse shows up for the game and manages to stay in the game until there are only two players left and she is playing against her nemesis, Felicia Furrpaws. Will Babymouse end up victorious?
Final Verdict: A Babymouse Flipbook: Thrills! Combines two of the Babymouse books that are full of delightful cheer for children ages 7 and up. Children and adults will laugh along with the antics that Babymouse gets into and enjoy seeing how she fixes up the mess she makes. Adults will enjoy the messages that are passed along to their children through these books as Babymouse learns from the mistakes that she makes.
