A Fall Day for Bear by Bonny Becker is like wrapping yourself in a cozy blanket on a crisp autumn afternoon. Becker brings back Bear and Mouse, the lovable duo from A Visitor for Bear but this time, the usually grumbly Bear has to step into the role of comforter.

When Bear goes to meet Mouse for their picnic, he finds his little friend unusually downhearted. Mouse is struggling with all the changes that come with autumn: falling leaves, flowers fading, birds flying south. His simple but tender worry “I don’t like it when things go away” captures something so relatable for kids and honestly, adults too. Change can feel sad, even when it’s natural.

Bear, who’s not exactly known for his sunny outlook, surprises us with his gentle determination to cheer Mouse up. Their friendship shines in these quiet moments of support, making the story not only heartwarming but also a wonderful way to talk with children about the seasons, change, and how to comfort someone who’s feeling blue.

The illustrations are warm, rustic, and perfectly autumnal; you can almost hear the crunch of leaves underfoot. It’s a book that feels both tender and playful, just right for reading aloud on a fall day.

A story about change, comfort, and the power of friendship, A Fall Day for Bear is sure to be a seasonal favorite!
