I've been a fan of Edward Gorey since I was a child, having done quite a few reports or projects on him. I was very excited to see a picture book biography about this beloved writer & illustrator, something that I could share with my young children.

As Edward Imagined follows Gorey’s life from childhood up until his death in April 2000. It explores his motivations, personal flair and how he lived “the life he imagined.” My children got a kick out of Gorey's signature words ("glugalump") and finding the cat in each spread.

Instead of copying or emulating Gorey's style of art, illustrator Marc Majewski captured the creative and free spirit Edward Gorey was using acrylic paint on paper.

Readers of all ages will feel a sense of greater permission to love what they love and be whom they want to be.
