Two brothers are worried because their parents aren’t preparing for date night which happens routinely, once per week. They love when their parents go out for date night since they get to spend time with their favorite babysitter, make slime, jump on couches, and eat pizza. The brothers decide to sneak around to see what their parents are up to because date night preparation looked different, and they find a beautiful scene.

What I Liked: The love in this book radiates off the page, showcasing both the parents love for one another and the families love for each other. This book is great for showing kids the significance of their parents spending time with one another without them and what prioritizing one another looks like. It also does a great job of highlighting an activity that the whole family can enjoy to share their love for one another.

The illustrations are full of details and do a great job of capturing the various emotions per page. Through the illustrations you can see the love that the parents have for one another, the concern that the brothers have when they assume date night is off, and their relief to find that date night wasn’t cancelled. The scene in which the children find their parents dancing is full of light, joy, happiness, and love shown through the bright colors and movement from page to page.

Final Verdict: At Night, They Danced highlights the importance of date night for parents, and showcases how fun it could be for the children. This book shows how staying in can also be fun and that date night is what you make of it. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy the various activities that the brothers enjoy when their parents are out, and find a new reason to look forward to their parents next date night.
