Carrot Cake and Pufftail live amongst their woodland friends and have a very important job: they are to protect their friends and attack when needed. Carrot Cake and Pufftail have a plan when Renard Fox moves in and begins causing trouble. Unfortunately, their first impression of Renard Fox is wrong, and now they have to make amends.
What I Liked: This book introduces you to Carrot Cake and Pufftail, who are trained to attack when needed. The types of attacks they engage in are quite fun and silly, such as baked goods and writing. These attacks get them into a big mess when they make assumptions about Renard Fox and then hear how he wasn’t trying to harm any of their friends. As Carrot Cake and Pufftail listen in on Renard Fox’s external monologue, they learn what he was trying to do and decide to make things right. They never really intended to hurt someone, just protect their friends. This moment is heartwarming as you see the shift in Renard Fox’s attitude as he is welcomed into the town.
The mischievous grin on Renard Fox makes you think that he is up to no good, and it's easy for the reader to go along with Carrot Cake and Pufftail’s plans. These illustrations add humor to the story, especially as the grin on Renard Fox’s face changes, causing you to feel pity for him. It’s interesting to see how the various antics that Renard Fox was up to were misunderstood when he began to talk about what he was really trying to achieve.
Final Verdict: Attack Bunnies is a silly book about what can go wrong when you make assumptions and how to remedy those mistakes. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy this hilarious story about bunnies protecting their friends and a fox who just wants to join in on the fun. This is a great story to teach children about listening to others before making assumptions about their intentions.
