Cosmo’s days of falling asleep wherever he found himself are behind him. Now he has way too much to do to even think of going to sleep—like practicing his karate, finishing his poem about cheese, and having tea with his good friend Bodingle Pumplenaut. No matter how cozy his bedtime rituals with Mommy, there are still so many questions to ask the minute she leaves: Do dogs have spare nostrils? Do ants sleep through thunderstorms? But soon Cosmo finds that he’s yawning and closing his eyes just when he doesn’twant to—at playtime. Will he finally get the hang of going to bed (and staying in bed)? From the creator of Carry Me! comes another very familiar story that promises to make bedtime anything but boring.

As one little frog grows up, he finds himself not wanting to sleep like he did when he was younger. Instead, Cosmo has all of the questions for his mom and he doesn't want to miss out on anything. However, he soon learns the more he stays up at night, the harder it is for him to stay awake during the day. It isn't until he falls asleep during a movie and feels left out at school that he realizes it's time for a change. Cosmo needs to do what he can to not miss activities during the day.
BEDTIME IS BORING walks children through the stages of sleep that they will likely go through. It also teaches them the importance of getting a better night's sleep and how to go about it. The illustrations are cute and bold, and I love how one of the main focuses is setting up a routine. This is so important for young minds and it's a great way to encourage children to sleep. I also really like how the author shows how children not sleeping negatively impacts the parents too. This is a detail that is often overlooked, so I'm happy to see it incorporated.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this to children who are struggling to sleep at night or for those parent's who are struggling to get children to sleep in their own bed. Hopefully, this can be a tool to teach children the importance of sleep and benefits of sleeping on their own. Overall, my daughter and I enjoyed this story and the bold text makes it easier for her to read too.
