While most chameleons prefer to blend in, Chamelia loves to stand out, especially in the way she dresses! Bold colors, sequins and animal prints fill her wardrobe. But sometimes, standing out means being left out. As Chamelia begins to feel this way, her parents let her know that standing out isnt the only way to feel special. She must find a way to join in and still be herself.
Chamelia by Ethan Long deserves applause for a character who stays true to herself and remains who she wants to be. More importantly, this book goes beyond the standard be yourself hype. It addresses the need to not become self-absorbedthat participating in groups matters and is an important aspect of life. The message is clear: be yourself but also be aware of others.
Collage illustrations feature fabric swatches as distinctive as Chamelia herself. Fashion-conscious little girls will enjoy this book.
