DANIEL MISSES SOMEONE is another great Daniel Tiger story about how to handle difficult emotions. Daniel loves spending time with his Grandpere, but he is always sad when he leaves and misses him a lot. He talks with his Grandpere and then his mother about it, and they give him some suggestions of things he can do when he misses someone. After Grandpere leaves, Daniel looks at pictures of them together, gives Tigey a hug, and draws a special picture for him. When Prince Wednesday comes over, Daniel learns that he is missing his brother, Prince Tuesday, who has gone to college. Together, they come up with new things to do when they miss someone, sending a fun package to Prince Tuesday.

What I loved: Daniel Tiger always has a great way of talking to preschoolers and toddlers about complex topics, and this was another example of how well he does this! Missing someone is a complex emotion and often feels like one you cannot do anything about. Daniel shows children that it is a normal feeling and that there are small things you can do when you miss someone. These constructive coping mechanisms are perfect for young children and are sure to make those being missed feel loved too.

The book includes key illustrations for each page, as well as the text of the related song (caregivers can check online to hear the tune if they want to sing it). I also appreciate that they give 2 examples of missing someone and show different things children can do in each case (with Prince Tuesday and Grandpere). This style of learning works very well for little ones.

Final verdict: Another great Daniel Tiger installment, DANIEL MISSES SOMEONE is a cute picture book that demonstrates what children can do when a loved one is missed, teaching complex concepts around emotions to toddlers and preschoolers in a really approachable way!
