Full of energy and curiosity, Doug the hamster can't help pushing every button, pulling levers, and testing the limits of rules. The sign says not to shout, but, how bad could the results really be? Doug is going to find out, and the other animals are tired of being caught up in the chaos. With a little nudge, they try to turn Doug's enthusiasm in positive directions, and just maybe this hamster will finally learn to keep his paws to himself (most of the time).

The cute, minimalist art style supports the drama and lots of laugh. As Doug finds an outlet for his impulses in more controlled, thrill seeking adventures, it's good of his friend the beetle to stick with him for the wild ride (through avalanches, skydiving, aggressive massages, and all the rest). At the end of the day, although Doug still has an itch for poking the bear (quite literally), this story explores the consequences of being impulsive and how keeping busy with physical activities or productive tasks can help redirect otherwise distracting energy.
