Bridget thinks it's a fun day to spend with her friends since it's her birthday. Unfortunately, Royal has places to go, Rodney has to see someone about a dog, Regis is washing his hair, and Peal is making a list of stuff to cross out. Bridget is prepared to spend her birthday all alone, but will her friends be able to shift their plans for her?
What I Liked: This book opens by introducing you to Bridget, who has a wonderful plan to spend time with her friends for her birthday. One by one, each friend informs her that they are too busy to spend time with her, but it seems that they forgot it was her birthday. In a pinch, they each manage to adjust their plans so that they can contribute to Bridget’s birthday, given her importance to them.
The simple illustrations do a great job of complementing the story and bringing the words to life. Each character in this story is a different color, making it easy to differentiate between them. The simple illustrations also allow for younger readers to follow along without getting distracted from the story by what’s going on in the images.
Final Verdict: I’m Very Busy is a delightful story about how important it is to set aside time for friends even when we are otherwise busy. Children ages 4 and up will enjoy this story and learn the importance of spending time with others and how it feels when people don’t have time for you. This book also serves to teach adults that sometimes we should be willing to make time for those that are important to us, and just how we can make our plans include others.
