Little red chicken is on winter vacation now, and she has promised to be on her best behavior, so Papa is taking her to see The Nutcracker. She’s so excited about this, therefore her Papa is worried that she’s going to get carried away during the show. Get ready to watch The Nutcracker along with Little Red Chicken and see just how she gets involved in the show.
What I Liked: The book starts simply as we learn about Little Red Chicken and her dad’s upcoming trip to see the Nutcracker. It then gets more elaborate as we start hearing the story of the Nutcracker with sudden interruptions from the Little Red Chicken. These moments add humor to the story of The Nutcracker so that children are more likely to follow along with the story. There is a fun twist that these interruptions add to the ending, so you’ll want to be sure to read all the way through.
The illustrations throughout this book go along well with the story as they shift styles from before and during the show. During the interruptions, the story includes speech bubbles to indicate that Little Red Chicken is speaking and interrupting what should’ve been said. During these moments in which she is interrupting, the expressions on the characters vary drastically from Little Red Chicken’s in that they are shocked, angry, or surprised. This book is a great way to introduce the story of The Nutcracker to young children and see what they think of this alternate ending.
Final Verdict: Interrupting Chicken Saves The Nutcracker is a fun and silly book that highlights how interruptions can create chaos and confusion for everyone involved. This book is perfect for those who are fans of the Interrupting Chicken series, as this one is just as creative and funny as the others. Adults will laugh at the interruptions from Little Red Chicken, as they might find they had the same responses in their head that she had out loud.
