I love this book so much. Almigal is spunky, fun, and actively involved with her friends and her family. She uses bubblegum pink hearing aids, but she still misses quite a few of the things she wants to hear. I love that the author was honest about Almigal feeling lonely and left out because of the things she couldn't hear, while still surrounding her with loving friends and family and activities that she enjoyed. That felt so authentic to me! Children who are dealing with anything that causes them to feel a little different and out of step with the world around them will relate to this book.
Almigal gets a cochlear implant (still bubblegum pink!) and it helps to open up her world a little more. Now she can hear the things she was missing before. I love that Almigal is so full of love and life, and that she has a strongly supportive family. This is a positive, honest book with adorable illustrations, and I highly recommend it to everyone.
