I'm a fan of time-honored Mother Goose rhymes, with their rhythms, wisdom, and silliness, consistently adored by children of all ages. I'm also a fan of Mary Engelbreit whose whimsical, cheery, poignant and funny illustrations adorn many greeting cards, calendars, books, and posters. Here, we have the best of both worlds--more Mother Goose rhymes than I remember (but including my old favorites), adorned with Engelbreit's delightful pictures, which go beyond the words to hint at a much greater story. For example, check out the haughty aged ballerina in "There came an old woman from France . . ." or the sorrowful monarch in "For want of a nail, the shoe was lost . . ."
From the first verse to the last, this beautiful book is sure to become an instant family treasure as we share these verses with the next generation, and summon memories of our own childhoods. Highly recommended.
