Aarav loves doing things with his grandfather but they are completely different. Aarav loves to hurry and run around while his grandfather, or Thatha, loves to go slow and shuffle from place to place. In the evening, Aarav looks forward to playing, but Thatha slows him down while making his masala chai. Thatha loves masala chai and makes it every day. However, one day Thatha falls and hurts himself and can't walk around at all. To brighten his day, Aarav comes out with the thoughtful idea to make masala chai for him, but can he get the recipe right?
MASALA CHAI, FAST AND SLOW is a children's picture book that teaches both about Indian culture and that some things are best when you take your time. Aarav learns an important lesson from his grandfather and sees that sometimes it's best to take things slow. Not only does the masala chai come out tasting better, but it also gives you the opportunity to enjoy things thoroughly. I love the adorable illustrations and the cartoon-y style that the illustrator uses to draw the grandfather and Aarav. In the back of the book there is a recipe to make your own masala chai at home and it's something I'm excited to try with my daughter. While she's picky and may not like the taste, it will be something fun and different to do together.
Final Verdict: This is a children's book that I would recommend for families to share together. It's an endearing and heartwarming story that makes me want to give my grandparents a hug. It encourages family values and spending time with one another to create unforgettable memories.
