Millie Fleur Saves the Night by Christy Mandin is a sweet story about learning not to be afraid of the dark and seeing that it can be just as special as the daytime. The book follows Millie, a girl who notices that many people are uncomfortable with the night and all the unknown things that come with it. Instead of avoiding it, she chooses to understand it and appreciate the quiet beauty that only appears when the sun goes down.
What I liked most about the story is the message behind it. The book shows that darkness is not always something to fear. Sometimes people are just nervous about things they do not understand. As Millie spends time exploring the night, she starts to see all the unique things that only happen in the dark, like glowing plants, nighttime creatures, and peaceful moments that cannot really exist during the day.
The illustrations are also a big part of what makes the book enjoyable. The artwork is colorful, imaginative, and full of little details that make Millie’s world feel magical. It even gives readers ideas for creating their own little “twilight garden” inspired by the story. Overall, it is a thoughtful and comforting book that reminds readers that both light and darkness have their own kind of beauty.
