The owners won’t be able to afford the expensive surgery and care, which is when Scarlett and her friend organize to raise money so Whiskers can have the best outcome.
While the author never says anything bad about the owners’ care, it is hard as a reader not to have hard feelings about the neglectful care of the kitten each day. It serves as a good reminder that kittens make better indoor pets. The content, length, and word choice make this chapter book a good intermediate step towards longer chapter books.
