When I think of snow, I think of snowmen, snow-cream and snowball fights! But not until I read UNDER THE SNOW by Melissa Stewart, did I ever think about what actually goes on under my snowy feet.

UNDER THE SNOW is a beautifully written, beautifully-illustrated book about the hidden lives that lie still and quiet beneath the icy snow, waiting for spring to come.

What lives, you ask? Why, there are cute, furry boles tunneling underground and chipmunks snoozing and snacking the winter away. Stewart even shows us how the cloak butterfly finds shelter from the snow in a pile of brush, how the wood frog uses leaves as a warm blanket, and even how the bluegill fish survive winter beneath a thick sheet of ice while humans ice-skate the day away a few inches above them.

This is the ultimate nonfiction book for lovers of animals and the outdoors. The colorful illustrations by artist Constance R. Bergum will keep little ones chattering for a good long time.

Thanks for this one, Melissa. As a former elementary teacher, I can tell you for certain...you did a great job!
