DINNER ON DOMINGOS is a lovely story about family, food, and the magic of a grandmother's house. On Sundays, Alejandra and all her extended family gather at her abuelita's house to share food, memories, and spend time together. Seen through this young girl's eyes, the magic of her family, her abuelita's house, and all the fun things they do there on Sundays comes to life.

What I loved: This is such a sweet read about family, time spent together, and the magic of it all. Alejandra captures the house and the experiences there for the reader, bringing us into the wonder and specialness of it all. The story is written with some Spanish sprinkled throughout, with most defined within the next line or two (and a glossary at the back for all the terms). This really brings the story to life and also captures some of the culture in the telling. The lovely illustrations add to the whimsical and lovely heartfelt nature of the story, bringing together these magical Sunday dinners. An author's note at the end describes the author's own experience to bring the personal inspiration for the story to life, and a recipe for the dish served in the story adds to the backmatter.

Final verdict: A delightful and lovely story about family, DINNER ON DOMINGOS is a picture book that captures the magic of family coming together for a special meal at Abuelita's house.
