"The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season! / Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason." Dr. Seuss's small-hearted Grinch ranks right up there with Scrooge when it comes to the crankiest, scowling holiday grumps of all time. For 53 years, the Grinch has lived in a cave on the side of a mountain, looming above the Whos in Whoville. The noisy holiday preparations and infernal singing of the happy little citizens below annoy him to no end. The Grinch decides this frivolous merriment must stop. His "wonderful, awful" idea is to don a Santa outfit, strap heavy antlers on his poor, quivering dog Max, construct a makeshift sleigh, head down to Whoville, and strip the chafingly cheerful Whos of their Yuletide glee once and for all. Looking quite out of place and very disturbing in his makeshift Santa get-up, the Grinch slithers down chimneys with empty bags and stealing the Whos' presents, their food, even the logs from their humble Who-fires. He takes the ramshackle sleigh to Mt. Crumpit to dump it and waits to hear the sobs of the Whos when they wake up and discover the trappings of Christmas have disappeared. Imagine the Whos' dismay when they discover the evil-doings of Grinch in his anti-Santa guise. But what is that sound? It's not sobbing, but singing! Children simultaneously adore and fear this triumphant, twisted Seussian testimonial to the undaunted cheerfulness of the Whos, the transcendent nature of joy, and of course, the growth potential of a heart that's two sizes too small. This holiday classic is perfect for reading aloud to your favorite little Whos.

There is no better way to get in the holiday spirit than by reading the classic Christmas book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and now theres a fun, interactive way to do it!

Read it yourself, or have the narrator read to you, the Grinch is now available as an e-book app for your iPhone or iPod Touch. This new spin on the holiday classic lets you read the book with background noises, has great narration, and illustrations that are true to the original book. Young kids will love being able to touch the screen and zoom in on the illustrations.

This app is exciting and unique. I loved the addition of the fun noises and that you could tap various pictures and the narrator would tell you what you were tapping. And the best part is that you can carry it around with you and share it with your family and friends!

This book by Dr. Seuss is one of those classic holiday stories that a lot of people recognize, even if they have only seen the movie versions. It was one of those books I read before the movies and loved it! The rhythm and rhyming style made it easy to read out loud, and the kids I read it to also stayed really interested the whole time.

The story follows The Grinch, who lives on a mountain above the town of Whoville. He cannot stand the Whos and especially hates the way they celebrate Christmas every year. Because of that, he comes up with a plan to sneak into the town and steal everything connected to the holiday, including the presents, decorations, and food. He believes that if he takes all of it, Christmas simply will not happen.

Something interesting I noticed while reading is that the book itself is a little different from what people might expect if they only know the famous TV special. In the original book, there are no songs like “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” Instead, the rhyming writing style creates its own kind of rhythm, which makes the story fun to read out loud. The illustrations are also simple but expressive, and they help bring the characters and Whoville to life.

At its core, the story is really about someone realizing they were wrong and changing for the better. When the Grinch sees that Christmas still happens even after he steals everything, he finally understands that the holiday means more than just gifts and decorations. It is a simple message, but it is one that still works really well, especially when sharing the story with kids.
