Beauty Comes from Within
What do you say when your daughter asks to be pretty like the girls she sees in the media? All the Ways to be Pretty tries to begin conversations about beauty with children using an Islamic perspective. Everyone is beautiful in their own ways, and this book serves as a reminder that beauty includes our insides, such as our character, and why just be pretty when we can be pretty smart, pretty brave, and more.
What I Liked: This book does a great job of highlighting ways someone can be beautiful and using nouns to describe the different types of pretty one can be. For each example of pretty, such as pretty wise or pretty pious, there is an example of a person from Islam who embodies that characteristic. The illustrations throughout this book do a great job of giving you a realistic idea of what each of the Islamic individuals looks like. The illustrations do a fantastic job of setting the tone for each page and illustrating how the individuals embody each of the words used to describe them.
Final Verdict: All the Ways to be Pretty is a delightful book for children ages 8 and up, highlighting the various traits that are beautiful using various figures in Islam. Children ages 8 and up who are familiar with Islam will enjoy learning through this book about the various ways one can be pretty, and then trying to see what words describe them. This book is good for those of you who may be looking at ways to show children how they are beautiful in their own ways, using an Islamic perspective.
